Howard S. Lewis, M.D.
Howard S. Lewis, M.D., is executive director of the Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute, Washington state’s most comprehensive source for advanced cardiovascular care.
In this position, which he has held since 2003, he is responsible for overall development and management of cardiovascular programs and services at Swedish. This includes oversight of hospital services in noninvasive and invasive cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac ICUs, vascular surgery, endovascular intervention and telemetry, as well as the Institute’s comprehensive Cardiovascular Health & Wellness program.
Dr. Lewis’ other duties include new program and service development, support for education and research, and oversight of partnership affiliations. As a cardiologist, he also continues to practice and is based at the Swedish/Cherry Hill Campus.
Prior to joining Swedish in this role, Dr. Lewis was a practicing cardiologist and medical director with Summit Cardiology in Seattle. He has also served as associate medical director for the Hope Heart Institute and is a former member of Washington state’s Cardiac Emergency Task Force. Currently, he is medical chair for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk in Seattle.
Board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology, Dr. Lewis received his medical degree from the University of Washington (U.W.) in 1983 and his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in 1979. He interned at the U.W., did his internal-medicine residency at UCLA and completed fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Oregon Health Sciences University and Emory University.
