Lymphoma - Hodgkins and non-Hodgkins

The Swedish Cancer Institute offers patients with lymphoma – both Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s – the expertise of highly trained physicians and other cancer specialists. Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a cancer of the lymph system and is diagnosed by identifying a characteristic cell under the microscope (the Reed-Sternberg cell). Hodgkin’s lymphoma typically begins in the lymph nodes in one region of the body and then spreads through the lymph system in a predictable manner. It may also spread outside the lymph system to other organs such as the lungs, liver, bone and bone marrow. Learn more about Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma also originates in your lymphatic system, when tumors develop from white blood cells (lymphocytes). The tumors can occur at different locations throughout the body – and in all, there are more than 30 types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It is more than seven times as common as Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and is one of the most rapidly increasing types of cancer in the U.S. Learn more about non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Treatments and procedures

At any given time, the Swedish Cancer Institute offers patients more than 140 clinical-research studies involving most types of cancers.  Additionally, our physician specialists collaborate with other regional and national research groups, including  Southwest Oncology Group, National Cancer Institute, Puget Sound Oncology Consortium and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
