Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding can take patience and time to learn for both mom and baby.  While most babies naturally know what to do, sometimes problems occur both in the hospital and at home. Swedish has several resources to help.

Breastfeeding clinic

The Swedish Breastfeeding Center provides one-on-one consultations to moms and babies who need extra assistance with breastfeeding. The clinic provides services for:

 

  • Sore nipples/breasts

  • Engorgement

  • Positioning and latch-on difficulty/breast refusal

  • Low milk supply

  • Slow weight gain

  • Premature/special needs infants

  • Twins/other multiples

  • Moms with a history of breast surgery

  • Back-to-work issues

  • Pumping questions

Fees: 

  1. $90 initial visit

  2. $60 follow-up visit

  3. $120 twins/initial

  4. $75 twins/follow-up

  5. $25 follow-up clinic group (for established patients)

Breastfeeding support group

The Swedish Breastfeeding Center offers a drop-in breastfeeding support group at Swedish/Ballard on Wednesdays from 2-3:30 p.m. It’s a great venue for any new mom who has questions about breastfeeding, but doesn’t need a specific one-on-one consultation.  Pre-registration is not required and the group is open to any mom in the community. The fee for the group is $10 or medical coupons are accepted. For more information, call the Swedish Breastfeeding Center at 206-386-MOMS (206-386-6667). The support group is usually held in the 5-North conference room on the 5th floor of the Ballard campus.  Please stop at the information desk to confirm the location.

 

Breast Pump Rentals

New mothers at First Hill and Ballard can rent a Medela Breast Pump through the Swedish Breast Pump Rental Station by calling 206-386-MOMS (206-386-6667) during their hospital stay.  The Breast Pump Rental Station is  located in the Swedish Breastfeeding Center, Heath Building, 801 Broadway, Suite 718. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Office is closed 12:30pm - 1:30m for lunch. The Issaquah Breast Pump Rental Station is located in Comfort and Joy at The Shops at Swedish, Swedish/Issaquah, 751 N.E. Blakely Drive, Issaquah. For questions about the Issaquah location, call 425-313-7097.

Breastfeeding supplies

Our Issaquah camus offers Comfort & Joy, a warm and welcoming boutique that caters to the needs of women from the first day of pregnancy through delivery, newborn care and the first two years of life. They also carry breastfeeding supplies. The shop is located at The Shops at Swedish on the first floor of the new Swedish campus in the Issaquah Highlands. 

The Swedish Breastfeeding Center at First Hill rents hospital-grade Medela breast pumps and now has Medela Baby Weigh scales available for weekly rental. The Medela BabyWeigh™ II Scale is an infant scale that automatically calculates breast-milk intake from pre- and post-feeding weights. Pumps and scales can be delivered to Postpartum, NICU or ISCU or any inpatient room on the First Hill campus. Or, stop by the Swedish Breastfeeding Center located in the Heath Building at First Hill, 801 Broadway, Suite 718. Also available is a wide range of nursing supplies, nursing bras and tanks, and baby carriers. At Swedish/Edmonds, breastfeeding supplies are available at the Pavilion Pharmacy. For more information, call 425-673-3700.
