For surgery, the experts are at Swedish.
The surgeons and surgical nursing teams at Swedish perform more than 32,000 procedures every year. This level of experience extends well beyond the operating room, to include nursing care, support services and other experts who will care for you till you’re back on your feet. Their experience and focus on surgical patients are your best assurances that your medical team is prepared to handle anything that comes up. In fact, it’s been proven time and again: the more procedures a hospital does, the better the outcome for the patient.
The experts at Swedish have the most experience at robotic surgery.
When the FDA first approved the daVinci Surgical System for robotic prostate-cancer surgery in 2005, Swedish made the investment to bring this technology to our patients. Now, 5,000 procedures later, Swedish has become the second largest robotic surgery program by volume in the nation. We also now perform robotic surgery for general surgical procedures as well as a wide variety of conditions, including gynecological cancers, colon cancer, lung cancer, urologic cancers and kidney procedures. You’ll find daVinci systems at four of our five hospital campuses, along with the expert surgeons who control these remarkably precise, minimally invasive tools.
An important historical fact: Swedish started as a surgical hospital.
When Dr. Nils Johanson came to Seattle in 1908, he quickly discovered there were no hospitals that lived up to his standards for cleanliness and quality of the nursing staff. And so he built one. In 1910, Swedish opened its doors and offered a new level of infection prevention to the people of Seattle. Now, more than 100 years later, the focus on innovation and quality in surgery is still the highest item on our agenda.
