The Swedish Simulation Center offers a variety of resources and programs to help learners of all types develop the competence and confidence they need to succeed. Learners are immersed in an environment that nurtures critical thinking, resource utilization, and the skill development necessary for patient safety and professional development. Simulation courses and clinical experiences are designed using Evidence Based Practice through the collaborative efforts of Professional Development Specialist, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Educators, Social Workers, Respiratory Therapists, clinical experts, and the Simulation Center staff.

Our Programs Include

• RN Residency and RN Fellows On-boarding Programs

• Over 35 specialty specific simulations are offered for Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Critical Care, Perinatal, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatrics and Emergency Departments
• We run nearly 2,000 hours of simulation per year and our manikins each work about a 1.0 FTE, while servicing 600 Residents and Fellows
• Examples include Blood Administration, Cardioversion, Respiratory Distress, Vascular Complications, Pediatric Respiratory Distress, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, Sepsis, Preeclampsia, and First Responder Simulations

• Respiratory Care Practitioner Simulation Programs

• An integrated residency program that incorporates newly graduated Respiratory Care Practitioners into RN residency and fellowship simulations to promote collaborative learning.

• Neonatal Resuscitation Classes, Chemotherapy Skills Classes, Debriefing Classes, Nursing Assistant Orientation, Annual Nursing Education and Unit Based Specialty Education

Our Simulation Programs Utilize

• Robust electronic medical records for each simulation patient that include background admission information, medication administration records, assessments, vital signs, care plans, LIP notes, lab results, and so much more
• Bar code scanning for patient identification and medication safety, including custom simulated medications that integrate with the EMR
• High technology manikins, advanced moulage for simulation fidelity, and 3D printed technology to advance the environmental fidelity of our simulations
• Custom designed and manufactured Wifi, RFID and Bluetooth enabled technology
• A high-definition audio visual system that allows for recording and playback of simulation and debriefing events, as well as integrated intercom capabilities to simulate overhead paging in the clinical environment
• Best Practice recommendations and standards from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL)
