At the Swedish Pediatric Neuroscience Center, we understand how difficult and disheartening it is when your child has a seizure from epilepsy or other disorders. Our experienced pediatric neurologists are here to provide the most advanced comprehensive care possible for children of all ages, from infants to teenagers. They specialize in the treatment of difficult-to-control seizures.
We work with your child and family to create an individualized treatment plan to best meet your child’s unique needs. Our goal is to improve seizure control so your child can safely participate in normal daily activities and sports while taking precautions.
A seizure is an episode of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Some seizures can cause unusual movements or convulsions, and others may be marked by changes in attention or behavior. Epilepsy is a diagnosis from recurring seizures.
It is possible to have only one seizure in your lifetime. It may result from, for example, a fever or illness. A single seizure does not mean that your child has epilepsy. There are many different types of seizures, including:
- Partial seizures
- Generalized seizures
- Infantile spasms
- Neonatal seizures
- Febrile seizures
