  • Providence Swedish delivers more babies than any health system in Washington State.
  • We are committed to giving every baby the best possible start, and our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is home to some of the most advanced care for our tiniest patients.
  • Through the generosity of our community, the Swedish Foundation supports programs and technology that help more of our NICU babies survive and thrive.

The arrival of a new baby is time of excitement and joy in most families. But for families of preterm babies, the joy that comes with their new little one also comes with unique challenges, stress and care needs. At Providence Swedish, our NICU is home to a Small Baby Unit that cares for babies who are born at less than 30 weeks gestation or weighing under three pounds.

To help meet the needs of these babies and their families, the Swedish Foundation provides support for an array of programs and technology, including specialized training for caregivers and family spaces that offer comfort and privacy when connecting with care teams.

Andrew Beckstrom, M.D., assistant medical director of the neonatal intensive care unit at Providence Swedish's First Hill Campus, visited KING 5's New Day Northwest recently where he discussed neonatal care at Providence Swedish and how the Swedish Foundation makes possible vital care for our littlest babies and their families.
