In light of the recent announcement by Virginia Mason Medical Center to close its downtown Seattle birth center next month, Providence Swedish wants to assure all expectant mothers and families in the community that we stand ready to provide the highest standard of pregnancy, childbirth and women’s health services at our Swedish First Hill (Seattle), Swedish Issaquah and Swedish Edmonds hospitals.
We understand that the closing of a facility can be unsettling for patients and their families. These decisions are not easy for organizations to make; it takes much discernment and evaluation. Swedish has had to make similar decisions in the past.

Every birth parent’s experience is different, and at Providence Swedish, we offer our patients the choice of a midwife, doula, OB-GYN or family medicine clinician to create the most personalized childbirth experience possible. As a Level IV regional NICU at Swedish First Hill, we provide the highest level of neonatal services to families in this region. Our new Small Baby Unit focuses on delivering evidence-based, standardized care for some of our community’s smallest and most vulnerable babies.
